Kvitkova Vanil launches Savage Bloom

US (LA): New flower collection for men sparks strong buzz

Historically, flowers have been marketed predominantly to and for women. But in March 2025, Kvitkova Vanil, a floral studio in Los Angeles, launched Savage Bloom to challenge that idea. “It is our first floral collection designed specifically with men in mind, blending strong, sculptural arrangements with unexpected textures and palettes. The goal is to celebrate masculinity in all its forms and to make luxury florals an accessible and meaningful gift for everyone, regardless of gender”, says the company’s Olga Volkova. And since its launch, the collection has seen a noticeable increase in demand.

Focus on composition, form, and texture rather than traditional softness
For the flowers in the collection, they focus on blooms with structure and edge, using masculine colors. The bouquets also feature exotic flowers, with faux leather used for wrapping. “The color palette leans into darker tones, earthy neutrals, and pops of unexpected contrast. Each arrangement is designed to feel powerful yet elegant, with a focus on composition, form, and texture rather than traditional softness,” says Volkova.

Positive responses
The response to Savage Bloom has been overwhelmingly positive, according to Volkova. “Both from our existing clientele and from a new, mostly male audience who are discovering florals in a fresh way. We’ve also seen increased interest from stylists, photographers, and event planners looking for florals that feel more modern and bold. Social media engagement around the collection has been strong, with many followers tagging us and using Savage Bloom in styled shoots and gifts.”

Uptick in sales
These positive responses have translated into higher sales. Since the launch, we’ve noticed a measurable uptick in orders referencing Savage Bloom, particularly for male birthdays, business gifting, and editorial collaborations. It’s also helped us reach a broader customer base and open up new conversations about what floristry can be.”

Marketing
How is the new collection being marketed? “We’ve approached the campaign with a mix of visual storytelling and subtle provocation, like styled photoshoots, short films, influencer collaborations, and guerrilla marketing across Los Angeles. We’re also leveraging platforms like Instagram and TikTok to spark conversation and feature real men interacting with flowers in untraditional ways.”

A perspective shift
To conclude, Volkova emphasizes that Savage Bloom is more than just a product, it’s a shift in perspective. “We believe florals are one of the most universal expressions of emotion, and there’s nothing “feminine” or “masculine” about beauty. We hope Savage Bloom encourages people to rethink how and why they give flowers, and to whom.”

More About Jess, the Founder

Jess often reflects on how serendipity led her to design dream weddings and create statement florals for clients who align with her authentic style. A long-time admirer of strong color palettes, designer fashion, art, architecture, and sleek interior design, Jess continues to draw inspiration from these passions in her work today. However, her journey into the floral industry wasn’t a conventional one.

Originally, she pursued a career as a physiotherapist, yoga teacher, and Pilates instructor. Her path took a turn when she took a sabbatical to travel the world, which led to an unexpected opportunity in the superyacht industry as a chief stewardess. While working in some of the world’s most luxurious destinations, she curated new-build yacht interiors and orchestrated elaborate onboard events, navigating complex logistics. This experience sparked her creative passion and motivated her to explore similar opportunities upon returning to Sydney. After enrolling in floristry and interior design courses, Jess founded her business—initially known as Boujee Blooms and Styling.

Three years later, the brand evolved into Boujee Haus, reflecting its edgy, artistic style and rebellious, sassy attitude. When she says everything, but EVERYTHING is about bright colors it’s because this is her business motto. Jess feels incredibly grateful for the impact the business has had on clients’ lives, many of whom she now considers lifelong friends. She remains excited that the company continues to attract like-minded clients who share a vision for bold, outside-the-box design concepts.

When she’s not managing the many facets of the business or styling herself to complement her floral creations, she can often be found at a new restaurant, effortlessly coordinating her outfit with the venue’s interior—dirty martini or perfectly paired cocktail in hand. For Jess, whether in business or life, the smallest details and flowers always matter.

The team specializes in designing weddings, private parties and soirées, brand events, and editorial and set designs. If you want to get a closer look at her colorful designs and get inspired, visitBOUJEEHAUS Instagram.

Inspiring floral communities with Aniska Creations

November 19, 2024

For this month’s Details University Live, the team had the pleasure of speaking with Ana and Anais Vivas, the mother-daughter duo behind Aniska Creations. Since relocating from Venezuela to Miami, the pair has built a thriving floral design business that is deeply rooted in their passion for flowers and their commitment to supporting the Latino floristry community. In this session, they shared their inspiring journey, their dedication to empowering fellow florists, and how they provide essential tools and resources through workshops and classes. For those who couldn’t join, Details University provided an official recap.

Aniska Creations, based in Doral, FL, has been flourishing for six years. The Vivas family moved from Venezuela to the United States in 2016, each forging new career paths along the way. Ana, who previously worked in event design in Venezuela, found a shared passion for florals with her partner, which ultimately led to the creation of Aniska Creations. Their commitment to design and floristry has made Aniska Creations a beloved local establishment.

Ana and Anais emphasize the importance of attending industry workshops, which were crucial in helping them master the fundamentals of floral design and understand how the floral industry operates in the United States. These workshops also provided valuable networking opportunities, allowing them to learn from other florists and build confidence in their craft. Now, they pay it forward by offering their own workshops, helping others grow their businesses. Their key piece of advice to emerging florists is to attend as many workshops as possible. These workshops cover essential topics like business strategies, marketing and design, while also helping florists refine their vision for their careers.

The Vivas duo’s passion for their craft and community is evident in everything they do. They have worked tirelessly to create opportunities for Latino florists, helping them succeed while fostering pride in their heritage. Within the first year of business, they began offering workshops in Spanish, recognizing the importance of providing resources in a language that feels most comfortable. This commitment allows florists to engage more fully, giving them the confidence to invest in their careers. What began as teaching workshops in their living room has now expanded to hosting events in their studio’s second-floor space and renting beautiful venues. The growth of Aniska Creations mirrors their blossoming journey.

Aniska Creations has also been fortunate to showcase their talents both locally and beyond. One of their most meaningful experiences has been their participation in Fleurs de Villes each year in Miami. For the Vivas family, the event is a “dream come true” and a labor of love. The Voyage edition, in particular, was especially significant, as they created a mannequin inspired by their home country, Venezuela. The stunning display earned them first place, and the project was especially emotional, with many team members from Venezuela contributing to its creation.

For florists looking to expand into new markets, Anais suggests considering the holiday season, particularly Christmas. She notes that the holiday season is one of the busiest times for Aniska Creations. Starting Nov. 1, the team begins decorating trees and handling holiday events and decor through early January.

In addition to their holiday projects, Aniska Creations specializes in Latino weddings, with peak wedding season running from November to January. This busy season helps balance out the slower summer months that are typical in Miami.

The Details team is grateful to have had Ana and Anais as guests this month. They will be hosting a workshop March 18-19 at La Estancia Farms, where participants can learn how to create stunning large floral installations, elegant container arrangements and luxurious table settings. This year’s workshop will feature both outdoor installations in the venue’s gardens and indoor designs, including innovative hanging arrangements. The workshop will be conducted entirely in Spanish and is open to florists of all skill levels.

A Storm of Sky Blue and Bright White

I’m honored to talk about my award-winning design created during the flower and art festival in Ksiaz Castle.

By: ZBIGNIEW DZIWULSKI | 10-01-2024 | 3 min read

The Flower and Art Festival held annually at the Ksiaz Castle in Wałbrzych, is an intriguing event that attracts flower and plant enthusiasts within and outside Poland. The 2023 festival, which was built around the theme ‘World of Legends and Magic’ saw an immense of talented floral designers take part in the creation of impeccable designs in the garden and rooms within the castle.

I was honored to be among the headlining designers for the festival and here is a quick peek into my award-winning floral arrangement in the 2024 Floral Trend Colors Sky Blue and Bright White, which I presented during the festival.

Lessons Learned From the Stormy Seas

‘Storm’ is the title of the arrangement created during the 2023 Flower Festival at the Ksiaz Castle in Wałbrzych. During the Festival, many castle chambers and spaces were decorated with flowers and arrangements related to the life and activities of the most famous resident of the castle – Duchess Daisy.

One of the rooms where I had the pleasure of decorating and coordinating floral works was the Gold Room on the 3rd floor of the castle. A beautiful space, with many gildings and a rich history, and therefore also demanding. With this type of interior, it is important to respect the decor and history.

Storm-Floral-Design

The inspiration for my flower design was Princess Daisy’s diaries and the words she wrote down – nothing shows me the essence of existence more than a storm at sea. In my work, I tried to present the turbulence of storm waves and the unpredictability and beauty of nature with flowers.  the wave structure was made of birch shoots intricately connected to create a stable base for placing the flowers.

The arrangement was in the tones of white, navy blue, gray, and turquoise, i.e. the colors of stormy waves. This project included delphiniums, hydrangeas, carnations, as well as limonium and gypsophila, which were supposed to refer to foamy water waves. The arrangement was admired by tens of thousands of visitors to the castle.

Tourists took part in the voting for the best arrangement. Ultimately, the Storm won first place in the tourists’ vote and also the Special Award of the castle employees.  it was a huge success for my entire team of assistants and the Association of Polish Florists that we represented.

A Stage Rich in History and Heritage

It was a pleasure to participate during the Flower and Art Festival, alongside talented and incredible designers. It is such a great fulfillment to contribute to that amazing ‘flower feeling’ and amazing moments that come forth from them. Through several designs presented, including my own ‘Storm’, every visitor was amazed and enjoyed the beauty and magical touch of blooms.

I would like to express my thanks to the castle management for the trust they placed in me, allowing me to work during the Festival. Great appreciation for the work and talent of the assistants – Anna Gliwa, Anna Plecety, Małgorzata Wróblewska-Tylus, Magdalena Płoskonka, Magdalena Żukowicz, and Piotr Konieczny.

City of Burnaby, British Columbia Canada

floral team with eco sculptures

Since 2020, amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been delighted to infuse the City of Burnaby, a neighboring city to Vancouver, Canada, with the spirit of Joy and Whimsy through our annual Woodland Christmas tradition. This contract involves a fabulous team I assemble each November to transform the EcoSculptures which are planted in season but dismantled late fall, to be decorated with a broad assortment of Christmas greens from the Pacific Northwest and a random collection of cuttings, botanical treasures from the City Park and Landscape crew.  The special EcoSculpture Department maintains a vision to bring Fun, Whimsy and Imagination to all their City parks and green spaces to put Eco-Sustainability in the forefront, in their public art to be enjoyed by the community.

reindeer sculpture

There were 28 EcoSculptures in all to complete this season to be installed in groupings in 8 locations throughout the city.  They included several Owl families which this year went ‘Gnomish’, Eagles, Cranes, Bears, giant Salmon, and a team of 8 Sheep which were recruited to pull the Santa’s Sleigh decked out as Woodland Rein-Sheep.  The Whimsicality in the imagination to design each year differently…. to add special personalities to the woodland creatures… is the job for our creative team.  We work side by side with the EcoSculpture team with total crew of 6 to 10 pairs of hands working to craft the unique characters which come to life in the city’s Civic Square, the Library, the Schools to bring smiles to everyone.

designers working on a sculpture

We work on every detail that create intrigue, curiosity, leading to imaginative storytelling and conversations with children and families. The holiday season is family time….  City of Burnaby want to entertain imagination through these woodland creatures with importance placed on Eco-Sustainable Artistry.  All the sculptures and supplies implemented to create fits into REUSE to REDUCE… all the tools and components are used and dismantled and reused again and again. Sourcing of botanicals are as local as possible with some of the best materials coming from selective prunings and from clean-up after wind storms.  Absolutely no invasives are used.  The general vibe is Natural Woodland Organics with fun and whimsy…. perfect way to teach the importance of Eco Sustainability to their citizens.  We are ever so grateful to be included in this annual mission. It is gratifying to hear observers on the street commenting that the display gets better and better each year.

Floratorium’s Carlos Franqui Chosen for Salon Art + Design

By Jill Brooke

Drumroll, please. This year’s florist chosen by Flowerpowerdaily’s Jill Brooke for the prestigious Salon Art + Design show will be Carlos Franqui of Floratorium. The annual show returns to the Park Avenue Armory in New York City from November 9-13, 2023

You know Floratorium’s work in creating outdoor installations at restaurants and corporations with vivid faux and real flowers. Not only has the media – as well as even Martha Stewart – hailed his work in creating an oasis of positivity during Covid, but Franqui continues to impress with his sculptural installations that others have now routinely attempted to imitate.

“Carlos Franqui and his team are innovators,” says Flowerpowerdaily founder Jill Brooke. “They are not only heroes for New York but continue to bring cheer and color into everything they create.”

outdoor floral display for a business

As the New York Post’s food and real estate columnist Jennifer Gould wrote, the striking outdoor installations actually boosted revenues for restauranteurs by “drawing in diners eager to forget they’re eating in a former parking spot” and having “ugly city scaffolding disappear under an intricate swath of vines popping with flowers.”

As Salon Art + Design’s executive director Jill Bokor says, “Not only are their extraordinary creations florals, they are works of art unto themselves. His work will be a brilliant complement to the mis-en-scene at Salon. As the first displays seen by visitors to Salon, these incredible arrangements set exactly the tone we look for – a breathtaking blend of art and design.”

Although Franqui wants to surprise the guests who visit the Park Avenue Armory in New York City November 9-13, 2023, we have some hints what to expect.

Outdoor floral decor at a business

Maybe it’s a mix of maple leaves, camelia, jasmin, dahlias, marigolds, cosmos and burgundy cabbage roses which he says creates the perfect set up for autumn.

Or perhaps it’s inspired by Daschner Castle, Floratorium’s first immersive hospitality experience in upstate New York.

entrance decor with flowers

One thing for sure, it will have a lot of greenery. Why? Franqui just trademarked the concept of Biofauxlia, which creates “50 shades of green.”

“Just like I realized people were focusing on the inside of restaurants instead of the outside floral displays, I see a need in the market that there aren’t enough offerings for special greenery,” he notes.

After all, great talents are always “growing” and like the Salon Art + Design event,  showcasing what is trending, visually stimulating and relevant for this moment of time.

Budapest’s Attila Nemeth Creates Memorable Pumpkin Art

By Jill Brooke

designer

We love exploring the world to find notable floral talents whose work stands out from the crowd.

Attila Nemeth’s name was given to us by our friends at Boston’s Cass School of Floral Design who are on the frontlines of up and coming talents. Nemeth had been studying to be an ornamental gardener in Hungary and then in his final year took classes in floral design. Obviously, it is where he landed and prospered.

He worked for master florist Imre Kata before venturing out on his own, citing influences from Gregor Lersch’s architectural work in using natural materials as well as art museums for color pairings. Any great artist synthesizes all their learning into a collective pool where they can then dive and swim with their own creative style.

Years ago, he started painting pumpkins in a kaleidoscope of colors, streaking them with gold and white flourishes which is not unlike many of the Budapest palaces and street architecture. Sure enough, this has caught on and why we are showcasing his work.

“Our students enjoy how Attila cleverly uses pumpkins as the base for creating gorgeous designs filled with intense blooms in the richest tones of autumn,” says Tyke Patriquin, Administrative Director of Cass School of Floral Design. “It’s always a treat to see how they turn a regular pumpkin into a regal and lush arrangement.”

Says Tonneli Gruetter of Florists Review magazine, “His style is iconic of the fall season and delights people from around the world.”

White House State Dinner Designed by Bryan Rafanelli

By Jill Brooke

The floral arrangement for the State Dinner with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his wife was a sea of pastels

First Lady Biden wanted the scene to look like guests are sitting in a field of flowers. The U.S. state flower – the rose – was represented with pink roses both in the arrangement and weaved and draped into glistening gold chandeliers.

Every table featured arrangements not only of roses but delphinium, eucalyptus, and dahlias since these blooms grow in both countries.  Also dotting the tablescape are pears, pomegranates, apples and red and green grapes which are part of the bounty of fall.

“The State Dinner design is inspired by the idea of our countries’ shared painted landscapes, celebrating the awe-inspiring beauty and vibrancy of the United States and Australia’s natural wonders and panoramas,” the White House said.

The china – an ombre blue and brown color palette – represented “where the Rocky Mountains meet the Blue Mountains.”

All flowers were sourced from organic farms around the United States.

As First Lady. Biden remarked, “Food is comforting, reassuring and healing.”  As are flowers. What do you think?

So what did Dr. Jill Biden wear? As we know, she often wears floral-inspired dresses and did not disappoint. Her blush-toned dress was designed by Reem Acra with silver sequins in a floral pattern.

The floral design was orchestrated by Bryan Rafanelli, who also created the floral designs for Naomi Biden’s wedding. His work is always so tasteful and builds a tapestry of colors seamlessly. The previous State Dinner honoring French President Emmanuel Macron was designed by Jung Lee. First Lady Jill Biden often offers these design opportunities to different U.S. florists. But she and Rafanelli have a wonderful relationship and are in sync in design and symbolism.

The food was created by female chefs including farro & roasted beet salad, butternut squash soup, braised short rib with Brussel sprouts, celery root puree and glazed carrots and a hazelnut and chocolate mousse cake. The wine served was Windracer chardonnay “Alexander Mountain” 2019 and Sequel Syrah Columbia Valley 2019.

This marks the fourth State Dinner during the Biden Administration. Since Dr. Jill Biden is a flower lover, the designs are worth the wait.

FLORIST INTERVIEW: AMBER LYNN

amber lynn

In this captivating interview, you’ll uncover Amber’s aspirations to uplift fellow florists, foster a supportive community, and push the boundaries of her craft. She shares her secrets to finding inspiration in nature, staying motivated, and navigating creative blocks. Join us as we delve into her dreams of scaling her business, creating breathtaking wedding flowers, and even exploring the captivating Isola Bella garden in Italy.  Prepare to be inspired as you enter the captivating world of Snapdragon Bloom Bar and the incredible floral journey that awaits.

Step into the enchanting story of the floral designer and entrepreneur behind Snapdragon Bloom Bar, where sunshine and blooms collide to create unforgettable moments. Growing up on farmland in Tennessee, Amber Lynn’s journey as a floral designer blossomed amidst the vibrant gardens of her grandmother and aunt. It was there that she discovered a deep connection to nature, sparking a passion for flowers that would shape her life’s work. From nurturing her own garden to braving the challenges of a new climate, Amber’s love for flowers has become a healing force, inspiring her to launch Snapdragon Bloom Bar —a dream business dedicated to spreading joy and “sunshine” through the artistry of floral design. But that’s just the beginning…

snapdragon bloom bar

Can you tell us about your journey as a floral designer and how you discovered your passion for flowers?

My journey as a floral designer started in childhood, growing up on farmland in Tennessee. Exploring my Grandmother Martha’s garden and my Aunt Rosemary’s flower beds, almost my entire family played a part influencing gardening cut-flowers and herbal healing lifestyles. It was then that I realized connecting to nature felt more like home than anything else. As my mother would say, “you’re a sunshine for others,” but understanding how to share that rooted gift was my ultimate journey. Over the last decade, I have continued my passion for flowers by growing them in my Nashville, TN home garden, including big snowball hydrangea bushes, Queen’s Anne lace, and many roses. Moving to Phoenix, Arizona a few years ago has been a wild ride, challenging myself to continue my love for growing seasonal cut flowers in this climate while keeping my florist skills sharp holistically. This passion is not only from a place of love, but it’s healing and supports mental health in everyday life. This inspired me to launch my dream business, Snapdragon Bloom Bar, to give “sunshine” to couples on their special day through the medium of flowers.

2. As a floral designer, what do you hope to achieve through Snapdragon Bloom Bar?

As a floral designer, I hope to achieve smiles from every couple when they see their wedding flowers on their special day. I aspire to uplift other florists in our industry by fostering a community of support and positivity, rather than competition.

3. How do you foster relationships with other florists and local suppliers to support and uplift the floral community?

In a social media driven world, it’s very easy to find yourself in a negative headspace, whether it be in your personal or professional life. It’s so important for those in our community to uplift each other, whether it be by connecting on social media in positive ways or supporting further education by connecting with peers, so that we can all find ways to grow together.

4. How do you stay motivated and continue to push boundaries in your floral designs, and what advice do you have for other florists who may be seeking inspiration or facing creative blocks?

I stay motivated as a creative by grounding myself in nature. In my garden, I find unfiltered inspiration from dancing flowers in the wind and its overall ecosystem. I push boundaries in floral design by starting with the foundation of understanding the blooming stages of each flower, and relating this to my own journey, as we are not always in full bloom during our evolution. Cosmos, for example, are just as beautiful in their lush and leggy stage, where the buds are just beginning to evolve from a 3 ft ethereal stem that looks organic and free in a bouquet or Ikebana design. My advice for florists who may be facing a creative block is to disconnect and spend time outside at sunrise around wildly growing plants or flowers. Let our instruments of work speak to us. The magic from observing nature in person, its unusual textures, and various stages of bloom, while sitting still can bring mindful inspiration that social media or a good book sometimes can’t.

5. Looking ahead, what are your future goals and ambitions as a floral designer? Are there any specific projects or dreams that you hope to fulfill in the coming years?

As an ambitious dreamer and mother, I will continue to teach my nine-year-old son the importance of providing service to all beating hearts, while scaling the business to bring intentionally designed wedding flowers throughout Arizona, Southern California, and the Southwest Region. My goal is to do what I love every day while maximizing my time with my family while we have it on this earth, and enjoy the love stories along the way. Wedding flowers are my niche, but one of my dreams is to visit Italy (not just because I love pasta) and the opportunity to explore Isola Bella. This Italian style baroque garden and old-world architectural elements set my soul on fire.

6. Can you share a success story where our wholesale flowers played a significant role in your designs?

As a luxury florist, I’m only as good as my local wholesaler. My success starts and ends with the Mayesh team, including my lovely sales representative Sarah Lindsey, who has supported me with grace and plenty of pretty pivots. I rely on Mayesh CRM* for floral planning, education, and their team to provide quality and variety in each season. Every time I pick up my preorder for a couple’s wedding, that is a success story of its own. Mayesh is family and family always support each other.

7. How do you stay updated with the latest trends and floral styles, and how does our wholesale business support you in staying ahead in the industry?

I stay up-to-date on the latest trends and styles by attending in-person continuing education workshops that align with my brand’s niche. Regardless of how many years a florist has under their belt, there are always new techniques and floral innovations to learn for elevating a trendy or timeless style. Mayesh supports florists by offering workshops and bringing in inspirational voices from all around to share their ideas and create a safe space to network with fellow florists. For example, in Spring of 2023, I attended “The Floral Coach, Bouquet Boot Camp” workshop in hopes of diving deeper into color harmony and building more cohesive bouquets while meeting other flower friends. I also had the chance to meet Amy, which was one of my favorite florist fan girl moments, and my color harmony skills have advanced my clients’ color palettes ever since!

8. How would you describe the synergy between your creative vision and the quality and variety of flowers we provide as a wholesale supplier?

The synergy between my creative heart and the combination of quality and variety of flowers at Mayesh is an orchestrated dance. Using the Mayesh CRM florist portal planning [Product Planner] is always a positive experience. There are times in seasons when certain colors of a particular flower species are not available, as this is just mother nature doing her thing, but there are always enough varieties and “sister flowers” to leverage!

9. Can you describe how Mayesh has supported your growth and helped you achieve your professional goals as a floral designer?

Mayesh has supported my growth as a luxury wedding florist by delivering quality product, strong communication, and following through on their expectations. My business is thriving, scaling in the last three quarters by reaching sales goals and hitting milestones that wouldn’t have been possible without my Mayesh relationships to source the high-end products that my clients are expecting.

10. What is your overall experience with Mayesh? Thoughts, opinions, etc : )

My overall experience with Mayesh has evolved into family. Sometimes I like to visit the team just to say hello and give them gratitude for what they do for florists every day. The best part is when you have the opportunity to buy flowers honoring yourself because florists deserve gorgeous flowers too!

Korean flower arrangements make for modern whimsy

Flowers give life and vibrancy to any space; from roses to tulips, they delight the senses and bring joy to those who lay eyes on bouquets of perfect petals and designs. An excellent floral arrangement can also make a good event great.

The use of flowers for decoration dates back to approximately 2686 BCE, according to Encyclopedia Britannica, with depictions of flowers in vases. More than 2,000 years later, in about 305 BCE, floral garlands and wreaths were popular in ancient Greece.

The intrigue of floral decoration and arrangements is timeless, and it continues changing.

At 24:01 Florist, located at 155 Main St. in Los Altos, floral designers create Korean floral arrangements that bring a more modern look to an event or space than traditional American bouquets, according to Jason Li, co-founder of the flower shop.

Katherine Xu, a floral designer at 24:01 who studied Korean flower arranging in Korea, said Korean arrangements tend to have more curves than American arrangements. Liner flowers, like curly willow, are often included in the designs.

Korean bouquets are also made with an emphasis on wrapping paper, she said. Varying patterns and textures are used to complement one another and bring the entire arrangement together.

“In the United States, it’s not very common as in Korea or China, where it’s a very common style,” she said.

Many local residents are embracing the international design style, Li noted, and are requesting floral arrangements for a variety of events.

“They’re wanting more of a table arrangement, we call them centerpieces, and they’re usually arranged in specific containers,” he said.

June through September is the shop’s busiest time for weddings, Li added. Couples usually ask the shop for large aisle arrangements and, in many cases, floral arches.

When working with engaged couples,  Xu said, understanding the couple’s vision for their  wedding is the first step.

“It might be a European castle style, a modern style, a forest style or something like that,” Li translated for Xu from Mandarin. “They are pretty much different from each other, so that’s the most important. After knowing the size of the wedding, we also, from the communication with them, we need to know their preference of color style, if there’s flowers they wanted to avoid, or if they preferred (certain) flowers.”

Do it yourself

While 24:01 Florist provides arrangements, Xu said one of the major aspects of the business is workshops where florists teach local residents how to create their own Korean bouquets and flower designs.

When the business first opened, 24:01 would deliver the flowers needed to workshop attendees’ houses, and florists led the workshops virtually. Now, the workshops are held in person, but not many people know the shop holds them.

While 24:01 routinely provides customers with floral arrangements, giving people the tools to create their own beautiful designs is a priority and passion for Xu.

“We want to make everyone who’s interested in making flower arrangements, or just the flower lovers and those who want to have some flowers at home, (be able to) make very beautiful floral arrangements by themselves,” Xu said. “And they can also share the flower arrangement with their relatives, with their friends, with everyone. We want everyone to enjoy the flowers and the flower arrangements.”

Anyone, from beginners to advanced floral arrangers, can enroll in a workshop.
